He’s only been on the job for three days, but Chairman of the Board of Selectmen John Rooney reported last night Southborough’s new Town Administrator Mark Purple is already getting down to work.

Purple, who started in Southborough last Thursday, attended his first Board of Selectmen meeting last night. Rooney said Purple has been meeting with department heads and getting a lay of the land.

Rooney met with Purple earlier in the day and said the two worked on identifying administrative processes that could be streamlined and made more efficient. “We need to find better ways to do things,” he told the board.

“I’m getting to familiarize myself with everything and everyone,” Purple said after the meeting. “Everyone has been very generous with their time.”

Saying he has a “full plate,” for the immediate future Purple said his focus will be on the town’s capital budgets, renegotiating four union contracts that expire in June, economic development, and Transfer Station operations.

“This board very much looks forward to working with you,” Rooney said last night. “I think we will make a good team and get a lot of good things done for the town.”
