One Algonquin team is left standing in the high school postseason. After knocking off Groton-Dunstable yesterday by a score of 16-8, the girls lacrosse team is headed to the Central District 1 finals where the returning champs will look to defend their title.

In the championship match on Saturday, Algonquin will take on 3rd-seed Shrewsbury. The game starts at 4:30 pm at Foley Stadium in Worcester.

The Algonquin boys lacrosse team, also the defending district champions, stumbled on their way to another title this year with a tough loss against St. John’s in the semifinals on Tuesday. Southborough resident Chris Wraight was at the game and reports the boys battled back from a 6-1 deficit, but lost with a final score of of 8-6.

Algonquin baseball was also knocked out of the postseason this week with a 7-1 loss to Nashoba on Monday in the quarterfinals.
