Join Southborough’s Veterans Day observances this Wednesday – Rain or shine

Southborough residents are invited to honor our country’s veterans at a Veterans Day observance tomorrow.

VFW Post 3276 Commander Steve Whynot’s annual invitation for the Town’s Veterans Day ceremonies explains:

We welcome the residents of Southborough to join with us at the All Wars Memorial. . .

The observance will begin at the traditional 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

I’d like to extend an invitation to all Veterans – Young and old – to join with the Veterans of the American Legion Post 161 and VFW Post 3276 at our Veterans Day Observance on Tuesday – November 11th at the All Wars Memorial.

Veterans will meet at the Post Headquarters at 1015 to form up and march to the All Wars Memorial.

Please join with us in remembering our fallen and honoring those who serve today and all those who have served our nation.

Traditionally, veterans are joined in the march by town Scout groups, Algonquin students and representatives from the State House and Board of Selectmen. (As stated above, that’s at 10:15 am.)

The procession to the memorial begins at 10:45 am to the All Wars Memorial on the common across from the library.

At 11:00 am, Veterans hold a ceremony including readings and patriotic music, which usually lasts 30 to 40 minutes.

This year, the Rotary Club of Southborough is further commemorating the day with a special evening event. The 7:00 – 9:00 pm celebration will focus on veterans from different eras in our nations history speaking about their experience with a short Q&A. For details, see dedicated post.

In honor of Veterans Day, the following institutions will be closed: Town offices, the Transfer Station, public schools, the Southborough Library, and the Senior Center.

Updated (11/10/15 9:00 pm) Confirmed that the parade in ceremony take place rain or shine.

On behalf of the Veterans of VFW Post 3276 and American Legion Post 161 – We extend our thanks and appreciation to all who joined us yesterday – in what was a little less than ideal weather. We’ve been extremely fortunate over the years to have great weather. A little misty rain was not going to hold us up.

So – to see a very nice showing of support by the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, family, friends and residents stand with us and pay honor to our fellow Veterans was outstanding. Thank you all.

Once again – the Singers and Buglers from Algonquin did a terrific job as well with their songs and sounding of Taps. It has become a great tradition to have them with us.

Ongoing Thanks to Southborough Fire and Police for their continued support – not only to our community – but to be present to support the Veterans.

Never one to miss an event in Southborough our appreciation and thanks to Rep. Carolyn Dykema for once again standing with us and sharing her thoughts.

Selectman Paul Cimino one of three Veterans on the Board of Selectmen – provided thoughtful words and a story of great courage.

What was really pleasing was that three Veterans from Town that hadn’t marched with us before – stepped in to join us. We hope this will be a trend going forward.

I can say – it makes us all Proud to be residents of Southborough.

Thank you all.
