Postseason almost over: Boys Tennis falls to Westborough; athletes in State and NE tourneys

Last Thursday, second seed Algonquin Boys Tennis made it to the district finals. There, they faced Westborough, a team that defeated them twice earlier this season. They were outplayed 5-0, securing Westborough’s third division championship.

The good news is two of the team’s members are still in the mix.

As I previously posted, sophomores Christian Jorgensen and Riyan Farhat won the CMASS Doubles Championships in May. This Saturday, June 18th, the pair heads to the State Semi-Finals. They’ll face North division champs, Lexington’s Ethan Zou and Charles Wang at St. John’s High School, at 10:30 am. (Rain date is Sunday the 19th.)

A win would put the duo in the Finals at 1:00 pm that afternoon against the winner of Brookline vs Longmeadow.

A few of the school’s athletes made it past their State finals to the New England Championships for Outdoor Track this past Saturday.

Senior Caroline Leonard placed third in the javelin throw. Senior Max Michaud ranked 9th in the 800 meters. In the 4 x 400 meter relay, senior Matt Burmeister, senior Jacob Gore, Max Michaud and junior Everett Pirtle ranked 8th.

A reader comment last week shared that all five students set school records in their events at the MA State Championships on June 4th.
