Post Season: Volleyball & Boys Soccer in division semis tonight; Field Hockey & Girls Soccer are out

Several Algonquin sports are still in the running for the state championships. Others are out.

Last night, Girls Soccer’s apparent path to victory was upset by underdogs in the quarter finals. The Girls lost their bid 1-0 to Westborough.

(OK, maybe I’m letting politics cloud my sports coverage. Westborough had tied them just two weeks back. So, while lower seed, the competitors probably weren’t considered underdogs.)

The prior night, top seed Marlborough beat out Gonk Field Hockey 2-1 in their division semi finals.

Fortunately, there were two big victories on Monday night leading to semi final games tonight.

ARHS Girls Volleyball shutout Natick in their division quarter finals. At 5:00 pm tonight, our top seed team has the home court advantage in the semis. Hopes will be high, when they play Shrewsbury, a team they already outplayed twice this fall.

If they triumph, they’ll head to Hudson High School on Saturday at 6:00 pm vs the winner of Acton-Boxboro vs Lincoln-Sudbury.

And Boys Soccer overcame upper seed Shrewsbury in the Quarter Finals, 3-2 in overtime. That puts them in the semis tonight at 7:00 pm in Leominster. They’ll need to beat Wachusetts to take part in Friday’s division finals. The T-Hawks did beat Wachusetts 2-1 earlier this season. But with similar stats, the teams appear to be evenly matched.

More details on this weekend’s Cross Country sectionals are now out. Boys and Girls Teams will compete in meets at Gardner Municipal Golf Course on Saturday, November 12th at 1:00 pm.

This Saturday in Worcester, expect a big turnout from T-Hawk Nation to help cheer on ARHS Football. The team will be vying for a slot in the state championships.

I’ve previously posted on Football and Cheer, but their competitions are important enough for a reminder.

ARHS Football plays in the division finals this Saturday at noon. They face Shrewsbury, a team with the same 5-3 record this season. But fans will remember that T-Hawks already beat the Colonials 31-21 just last month on the competitor’s turf.

And the T-Hawks Cheer team is competeing in an invitational at Shepherd Hill today. And on Sunday, they’ll be cheering in the Central Mass Regional Cheer Competition.  That takes place at Marlboro High School. And it looks like the girls are scheduled to perform at 2:46 pm.
