Yesterday afternoon, Algonquin Girls Hockey team won the Division 2 State Championships at TD Garden. It was the first time an ARHS Girls Hockey team took home a state title.
Below are highlights of the excitement captured by the media and social media.
The Herald wrote:
Canton was on the scoreboard first as Maya Battista gave her team the 1-0 lead with a goal off an assist from Ellie Bohane at 14:58 of the first period, which stood until the third period. Canton’s style of play wasn’t the prettiest, but the Bulldogs were super effective in the first two periods with using the bigger ice surface to their advantage. . .
Canton turned up the heat on offense and had a 6-1 shot advantage in the first 3:30 of play in the third, but Mallory Farrell was able to get a quick backhand out in front of the crease and Bryn Domolky was in perfect position to put home the rebound off the glove of Canton goalie Carolyn Durand, who played excellent throughout the tournament, tying things up five minutes into the third to set up Farrell’s sudden death heroics.
Farrell scored the game-winning goal for the No. 10 Titans in a 2-1 overtime victory over defending co-champion, No. 9 Canton, going from the middle of the neutral zone, down the right boards and turning on the jets to slide across the crease for the untouched and unassisted tally.

Senior goaltender Lana Pacific made 24 saves, fending off several quality chances on a power play just minutes into overtime.
“Lana just stays dialed in,” said Hodge. “She’s played in big games, so she doesn’t get flustered. Being a senior with all the experience and all the games played, that helped us.”
Hockey Night in Boston posted a video of the winning goal to instagram:

That wraps up ARHS’ winter season. Spring sports kick off this week.
Only one varsity game is scheduled in the next two weeks (Girls Tennis on Friday, April 1st at 4:00 pm, vs. Advanced Math & Science Acad. Charter @ Algonquin.) So, I’ll be skipping next week’s post.
