Register for Senior’s or Men’s Softball leagues

It’s the time of year when I get a lot of requests to promote registration for upcoming sports seasons. Those are usually for youth leagues, but there are occasional exceptions.

One league is seeking Southborough adults ages 50+ for a regional slow pitch softball league. Recently, I also read about a a Southborough softball league for men that has room for new teams and individual players ages 18+ to join.

Here are the details on the EMASS Senior Softball League and the Southborough Men’s Softball League. (Unfortunately, registration for the area’s league for women is already full.)

Southborough Men’s Softball League

The Men’s league (for ages 18-88) was the subject of a recent article by the Community Advocate. It noted that the league plays its games weeknights at Woodward School, starting in May. A league meeting will take place in April.

I followed up for a little more detail. Larry Branson tells me the team has been around for decades. It’s a fairly informal league. There’s no registration for individual players, just for the teams, which play one or two games per week.

He doesn’t check the team email frequently ( but can be reached by phone if you have any questions — 508-304-4714.

EMASS Senior Softball League

The league kicks off play in April with playoffs completed by October 1st. Its website touts:

EMASS is a vibrant community of more than 400 members who love softball and compete in a spirited, sportsmanlike manner. Our players range in age from 50 to 80-plus and play in four weekday and two Saturday divisions of different age groups and skill levels. No matter your ability, you will find a spot in one or more of our six divisions. We have paid umpires and we play on well-groomed fields in Framingham, Medfield and Wayland.

FAQs clarify the league is mostly men but would welcome more women to join.

In a press release, organizers pitch, “Be Part of a Team, Form Lasting Friendships and Enjoy Balanced Competition”.  The release promotes the sport as addictive fun that encourages camaraderie combined with healthy physical activity. You can read that here. To register, click here.
