April at Chestnut Hill Farm

Programs for kids, explorations of nature, and an open house

With spring break starting this afternoon and Earth Day next week, I’m overdue in sharing what The Trustees of Reservations have in store at the Southborough farm for the remainder of this month.

Most of these Chestnut Hill Farm events require pre-registration and include a fee.

Events are organized below first by those specifically for children (including special ones for the school break) for followed by ones for all ages (adults or families).

The costs cited for events below are per member/non-member. (You can find membership details here.)

Programs for Children

Junior Farmer For A Day
For grades K-5

Junior Farmer (from TTOR event website)Monday, April 17th & Tuesday, April 18th, 4:00 – 5:30 pm
Cost: $48/$60 per child

Give your child the experience of being a junior farmer! Help care for farm animals, learn about farm-fresh food, hike the trails, create natural crafts, and explore the farm from the eyes of its most important team member: the farmer!

For ages 2 yrs & 9 months – 5 yrs

Thursdays, 10:00 – 11:00 am, February 16th and March 2nd, 16th, and 23rd
Cost: $24/$30 per child & parent pair (per session); $12/15 per younger sibling (free for siblings under 1½ yrs old)

Your little farm explorers will become fully immersed in what life is like here at Chestnut Hill Farm. Each morning will be a new learning experience. (Not a drop-off program.)

Hiking & Nature Education for All Ages

Saturday, April 22, 10:00 – 11:30 am
Cost: $12/$20 per person

A slow, mindful walk. Using present moment awareness, deep breathing and conscious movement, our Mindful Outdoor Guide will invite participants to awaken their senses and receive the healing power of the forest.

Saturday, April 29th, 1:00 – 2:30 pm
Cost: $20/$25 per adult; $12/$15 per child

Join us for this informative guided hike to discover the superpower of forested wetlands – one of nature’s unique ecosystems. Learn about the wetlands role in creating a healthy environment and their superpowers as groundwater purifiers, nurseries and breeding grounds for important amphibians, and so much more.

Sunday, April 30th 1:00 – 3:00 pm
Free

Learn about Chestnut Hill Farm’s Community Supported Agriculture program.

Event includes light refreshments, a chat with the farm manager, and a tour. Attendees will learn more about our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, meet other CSA members, and get to know our farmer.

This Open House is great for those interested in learning more about our CSA and current CSA members that want to hear exciting updates about our program this season. Guests are welcome
