Thanksgiving is sneaking up on us. That means the 17th annual Gobble Wobble walk and run will take place a week from Thursday.

Friends of Southborough Recreation are asking for volunteers to help make sure the fundraiser runs smoothly. I’m also reminding readers on the details for those looking to trot in the 5K timed race, or strut in the 2 mile family-friendly walk.

The annual event is offered by Friends of Rec to support “community health, togetherness, and spirit”. But is also their big annual fundraiser. Proceeds help support community recreation (facilities, programs, etc.)

There are some details worth highlighting about this year’s event:

  • No dogs will be allowed on the course.
  • The Friends of Southborough Recreation will be collecting used sneakers. (Scroll down for those details.)
  • Gobble wobble shirts displayAt the event previous years’ event shirts (and extras from this year) will be for sale. ($15 for ’23, $10 for ’22, and $5 for older shirts. Sizes limited.)
Event Details

The walk and run start at 8:30 am on Thanksgiving (November 23rd). Check in at registration begins at 7:00 am, with an early check in also available the day prior — 1:00 – 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 22nd.

Early Bird registration costs are $35 per adult and $25 per child (ages 1-18). (Day of, in person registration is $5 more.) A discount is available for households registering 5+ participants.

The event begins and ends outside of Trottier Middle School at 49 Parkerville Road. As always, medals will be awarded for overall Male and Female runners, plus by age group.

Got Sneakers? Fundraiser

In the Trottier gym, organizers will have a bin to collect used sneakers. The organization “Got Sneakers?” will recycles the shoes “based on condition, maker and re-usability”. The Friends of Rec will receive a check for the donations based on what is collected.
