Santa flies into Southborough – Dec 2 (Updated)

Enjoy greeting and taking photos with Santa for free, thanks to Kindergroup, St. Mark's and event sponsors

Last week, I listed dates for the many upcoming Christmas and winter holiday celebrations and festivities in (or related to) Southborough. Now it’s time to share more details on the biggest community holiday event for many families with young children — Santa Day.

Santa emerging from helicopter in 2017 (by Beth Melo)Thanks to Southborough Kindergroup, Santa Claus will be making his annual pre-Christmas trip to Southborough on the first Saturday in December. Weather permitting, he’ll be flying in by helicopter again.

(As I always explained to the young ones – reindeer can only fly on Christmas Eve, and the North Pole is quite a long trip by land. It just makes sense.)

The helicopter is scheduled to land on the St. Mark’s field at the corner of Routes 30 and 85 on December 2nd at noon.

Santa arrived by Fire Truck(If, like last year, conditions make landing a copter unsafe, he’ll arrive by fire engine.)

Santa took his time greeting his fans (Santa Day by Beth Melo)The jolly old elf will emerge to greet the crowd buzzing with excitement. After a few minutes, he’ll work his way through to cross the street to the Community House.

2017 contributed photoInside is where he’ll fulfill his real purpose — to hear from children what they want for Christmas (while grownups snap pictures and hope their kids’ wishes are reasonable)

The event in the Community Couse is free (thanks to all the great sponsors).* And organizers have a lot in store to keep kiddies entertained while they wait their turn to see the big guy.

While waiting in line, families can enjoy:

  • Character appearances (including the popular snowman Olaf)
  • Carols by the St Mark’s School choir
  • Story time with Mrs. Claus
  • Treats
  • Arts and crafts

The Community House event runs until 3:00 pm.

*Updated (11/27/23 9:15 am): I incorrectly noted that there is a fee to enter the Community House. While there used to be one back in my day, these days the event is free to all!
