Aftermath of the storm

This morning, 352 “customers” are still without power in Southborough due to yesterday’s storm. That translates to a lot more people — about 8% of the town.

power outage map NGridThe biggest outages are in the southside of town. 189 customers along Parkerville and Middle roads between Route 9 and the Mass Pike and another 91 in the neighborhood of Woodbury Road and Heather Lane.

Unfortunately, since the wind did so much damage in the state, it could take days for the utility to restore power to all customers. (Though I assume the largest outage areas will get first priority.)

FD Facebook post 12-18-23Yesterday morning, a tree blocked a section of Route 9 east between White Bagley and Woodland roads and impacted the westbound side. It appears that was reopened less than an hour after the SFD posted the news to Facebook.

Southborough Police Department posted to Facebook yesterday afternoon:

All day long, our officers have been responding to wires and trees down; blocking roads and causing all sorts of disruptions. A big THANK YOU to our community partners (especially the SFD and the DPW) who have also been out there working hard!

It has been a real community effort! 💪🏻

Some of our neighbors were hit harder — like Hopkinton whose schools were impacted. (As of this morning, only 30 customers were impacted in Northborough where our regional high school is. But a message from the schools yesterday morning stated that some bus routes were impacted by road closures in their town.)

You can read more about impacts to the greater region in the MetroWest Daily News and Community Advocate.
