Plus, a look at other openings on Town committees

There are still vacancies on the 21 Highland Future Use Committee. The Town is seeking neighbors who live within a half mile, and an at-large member.

As long as I’m sharing that news, here are other vacancies on Town Committees.

Residents interested in volunteering for either the 21 Highland committee or other positions below can fill out an online form (with an option to upload a resume) here.

All of these positions are appointed ones — by the Select Board unless otherwise noted. (Stay tuned for news on elected positions that will be on the Town Ballot this spring.)

Veterans’ Graves Officer

After years serving as the Town’s agent overseeing that graves in the Town’s cemeteries are maintained with “RespectDignity and Honor“, Steve Whynot resigned from the post. A new volunteer will need to be appointed.

Select Board Chair Andrew Dennington announced on Tuesday night that Whynot had resigned the day prior. Board members noted their appreciation for all of the great work that Whynot has done over the years.

According to Whynot’s description on the Town website, his goals included ensuring that each Veteran’s grave “is appropriately marked with either a grave marker, flag holder or an American Flag.” He also helped with requests for granite/plaque grave markers from the federal government, among other work.

You can read more about the position here.

21 Highland Future Use Committee

21 Highland - volunteer promoAs I previously posted,  the Select Board voted to approve the charge of a new ad hoc committee to study and make recommendations on how the municipal property, and the historic South Union School Building situated on it, should be used.

You can read more about that here.
