To the Editor:
Ballot Question #4 provides funding for sidewalks on four connector roads in town. Connector Roads by definition are neighborhood streets which residents from neighboring communities utilize to reach their ultimate destinations beyond our town. These roads include Woodland Road, Richards Road, Parkerville Road and Oak Hill Road. The high volume of traffic on these roads has little regard for speed limit signs and also for the fact that local adults and children are using these streets for daily walking, walking to school, walking with baby carriages, and bicycling.
It should be noted that in most cases these proposed sidewalks provide a missing link to an already existing sidewalk network which reaches an elementary school. Many years ago when these roads were built they provided access to neighborhoods for local vehicles and pedestrians. Today they have become major cut-throughs, however we still need to acknowledge that they are also avenues for our pedestrians and that our pedestrian safety should be paramount. In the interest of our obligation to provide pedestrian safety please vote YES on Ballot Question #4.
