Videos: Southborough Connections for Seniors

Over two years ago, I shared an announcement about a new video series through Southborough Access Media. The cable access/media organization partnered with the longtime Chair of Southborough’s Council of Aging.

Since then, Doug Peck has been conducting interviews he believes may be of interest to seniors in town. Some of the topics are about town government, resources, or community members. But some are with experts on topics he hopes are helpful for Southborough community members seeking to age in place.

Below are Southborough Connect videos posted over the past 1½ years.

Jennifer Scumaci

In May, Peck interviewed a local practitioner of “homeopathic” medicine on “self care and healing practices”.

Sarah Levin Bourque

Peck recently interviewed a representative of The Aging Space about support systems for seniors and the complications of “aging in place”. 

Southborough Senior Center

Peck interviewed the center’s Program Manager Jill Lillibridge and Outreach Coordinator Raeleen Gallivan.

Kathy Cook

He interviewed Select Board member Kathy Cook, who is now the Chair of the board. She spoke about projects that the board was working on, including ones that were headed to Town Meetings held in March and April. (Although the video was posted in late March, the interview was clearly conducted in December or early January.)

Bob Barnes

This interview spotlighted a Southborough resident who was a former member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and First Chair for the viola.

Sarah Cassell and Shannon Kinayman

He spoke with Southborough Youth & Family Services’ Director of and Program Coordinator. They discussed the types of services they offer to the community — free of cost to residents, regardless of age.

Moira Allen

The co-founder of the “Pass It On Network” discussed the “grassroots forum” of “active ageing advocates from nearly 60 countries engaging in intergenerational dialogue and knowledge-sharing, and celebrating the vital role of older adults in building an inclusive, sustainable world.”

Looking further back to 2024, Peck also posted other interviews that included discussions that seem too outdated to promote two years later. But, for those interested:

In November 2024, he and School Committee member discussed the version of the new Neary School building project that was later rejected by voters.¹.

In September 2024, he spoke with Carolyn MacLeod, who was the SHINE Counselor supporting Southborough seniors with Medicare questions. Some of the overall info they discussed may still be relevant. But given regulatory changes in the past two years, I’d say its best not to assume all of the details are still accurate. (If you have questions, you can schedule an appointment through the Senior Center to talk to their new SHINE rep, Larry Whitman.)

Earlier that year, he interviewed longtime Senior Center staff (Director Pam LeFrancois and Outreach CoordinatorCindy Henderson Beard) who have since retired and the then-Chair of the Select Board, Andrew Dennington, who gave now-outdated updates on Town initiatives.
