Southborough Police Arrest New Hampshire Man Following Crash
Chief Ryan Newell reports that the Southborough Police Department arrested a New Hampshire man following an early morning crash Tuesday.
At a local hospital following the crash, [a 38 yr old man from Nashua, NH], was arrested and charged with the following:
- Operation of a Motor Vehicle with Suspended License
- Marked Lanes Violation
- Operating Under the Influence of Liquor
- Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle
- Use of a Motor Vehicle Without Authority
Following several 911 emergency calls on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 3:33 a.m., Southborough Police Patrolman Jeffery Mayer and Sgt. Jeffrey Norton responded to a reported crash at the intersection of Turnpike Road (Route 9 West) and Middle Road.
Upon arrival, Officer Mayer and Sgt. Norton found an impassable intersection strewn with vehicle parts and two badly damaged vehicles.
A black 2007 Mazda 3 had extremely heavy front-end and driver-side damage. The windshield was completely broken with a noticeable “star” type pattern consistent with the driver’s face/head striking the glass. The steering wheel was crushed and pushed toward the dashboard. Police found [the driver] on the passenger seat with his feet in the driver’s foot well. A preliminary investigation indicated [the driver] was driving the vehicle but not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
[The driver] was the sole occupant. Police detected the odor of alcohol.
A second vehicle, a gray 2010 Honda Prius with moderate front-end damage, was located further up the road.
Southborough EMS arrived on the scene and transported [the driver] to the hospital for treatment. Dispatch notified the responding officers that the Mazda that [the suspect] was driving had been reported stolen in Worcester on Jan. 17.
A preliminary investigation determined the Mazda had crashed into the median at a high rate of speed, then struck the Prius.
Southborough Police also learned that [the driver] was wanted on a Fugitive from Justice Warrant from Hillsborough County, N.H., Superior Court, and had five (5) outstanding warrants from district courts in Lawrence, Lowell and Ayer.
A Southborough Police investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
