Both the boys and girls lacrosse teams won their semifinal matches in East Longmeadow yesterday, setting up back-to-back championship games on Friday. What a weekend for Algonquin. On Saturday the boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse teams won their respective district titles in back-to-back matches at Foley Stadium. The same day the Algonquin girls rugby team captured the Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organization State Championship title. Then on Sunday, the underdog Algonquin baseball team staged a huge upset over top-ranked St. John’s to win the Central Division 1 title. Yesterday was a big day in Algonquin sports. Both the boys and girls lacrosse teams won their respective Central Division championship games. The boys beat Grafton by a score of 11-9 and the girls triumphed over Westborough by a score of 7-5. Both teams will move on to the state tournament with semifinal games on Tuesday. It was a nail-biter for the Algonquin boys lacrosse team last night at Foley Stadium, but the T-Hawks pulled out a 7-6 win against St. John’s in the Central Division 2 semifinals. After more than a week of idle time thanks to a first-round bye and some uncooperative weather, the Algonquin girls lacrosse team finally got in their Central Mass Division 1 quarterfinal game yesterday afternoon.
