Algonquin Boosters Tennis will hold the Fourth Annual McCurdy Tennis Tournament on Sunday, June 9. The tournament, which is open to all ages and skill levels, is named in honor of beloved Algonquin girls tennis coach Jan McCurdy who passed away from cancer in 2009. The board ultimately backed off its plan at the time to shutter the leave-and-take area at the Transfer Station after unprecedented public outcry. Longtime resident Alice Foley died at the age of 87 earlier this month. I didn’t know Mrs. Foley personally, but her name will be familiar to anyone who has read the list of names etched into the stone of the All Wars Memorial on Southborough’s Town Common.
