Southborough is getting a new ladder truck

Without so much as a peep, voters last night approved funds to purchase a new ladder truck. For the Ladder Truck Committee, it was the culmination of 18 months of hard work. The auditorium rang with applause after the vote was final.

Benchmark Deli closing over dispute with landlord

Here’s one I’m really sad about. The Benchmark Deli in the mint green building on Framingham Road (map) will close for good on Saturday over disputes with their landlord.
I heard the rumor this weekend, and today the Metrowest Daily News confirms it’s true.

Town meeting recap: Most everything passed

Residents made quick work of the 13 articles on the warrant at last night’s special town meeting. The whole thing lasted about two hours.
Nearly every article on the warrant passed, including the ladder truck, the marijuana use bylaw, and the solicitor bylaw. The only exception was a bylaw that would have moved town meeting to

Making like a scarecrow

Advisory Committee opposes marijuana bylaw

It’s a safe bet that the ladder truck article will generate significant discussion at town meeting tonight, but another article that may spark debate is the bylaw concerning public use of marijuana.

Fighting cancer with every step at Bodyscapes

Bodyscapes Fitness in Southborough has a new treadmill. Not just any treadmill, a pink treadmill. And for every mile logged on the treadmill over the next year, Bodyscapes will make a donation to The Ellie Fund, a local charity that supports women with breast cancer.

The weather may have been damp, but the mood was anything but at the Beals’ Preservation Celebration yesterday. Dressed in rain jackets and boots, a good number of folks turned out for an afternoon of nature, art, and music. No one seemed to mind the rain, least of all the cows.

The Advisory Committee and the Board of Selectmen don’t always see eye-to-eye on town meeting articles, but in the case of the ladder truck, they’re not too far apart. Both groups support the purchase, the difference lies in how to pay for it.
