Pansies for the Chief

Purple PansiesIt’s the first day of spring. What a perfect day to talk about pansies, particularly ones for a good cause.

The Pancreatic Cancer Alliance holds the Pansies For Progress fundraiser each year to raise money for the fight against pancreatic cancer. This year you can purchase pansies in memory of Southborough Police Chief William Webber who passed away last November after a battle with the disease.

It’s the second year Southborough has participated in the Pansies for Progress event. “We all miss Bill so much that it’s our mission to do as much as we can to raise money and awareness,” Assistant Town Administrator Vanessa Hale said.

Last year pansies were sold at the Town House, but the drive was so successful that this year they moved it to the Senior Center where there is more room for pansy distribution.

To purchase your pansies, stop by the Senior Center (9 Cordaville Road) by April 3. Four-inch pots are $5 each, or buy five pots for $20. Proceeds benefit pancreatic cancer research at UMass Medical School.

Pansies will be delivered on April 13.
