What to do this weekend: Spring cleaning edition

Vintage Triang dolls house cleaning suppliesThe calendar may say it’s spring, but it’s still too chilly to fling open the windows and let the fresh air in. But it’s never too early to start your spring cleaning.

Here are some opportunities designed to get you inspired to clean out those closets.

Bargain Box accepting clothing: Starting Monday, the Bargain Box will begin accepting spring and summer clothing for consignment or donation. They start selling on April 2. Clothing, hats, scarves, purses, shoes, belts and ties will all be accepted provided they are clean, in good repair, and are currently stylish. (No, those acid-washed jeans shoved in the back of your closet are not currently stylish.) See the Bargain Box flyer for guidelines and drop-off times.

Used coat drive: Now through March 31, donate your clean, gently-used winter coats to Marlborough Community Services, which serves Southborough and surrounding communities. They have many families looking for men’s, women’s and children’s coats but supplies are low. Labeled bins can be found in the lobby of Neary, Woodward, and Finn.

Books to benefit Southborough seniors: Collect up all those book club selections you hated, or those trashy novels you’d rather no one knew you read, and put them to good use. You can drop off used books, along with CDs, DVDs, and audio books, at the marked container in the recycling area at the Transfer Station. The stuff you donate goes to various worthy causes, and the Friends of the Council on Aging gets some cash in the process.

Happy cleaning!
