Selectmen say Colony Market ‘misrepresented facts’ to get liquor license

Pizza 19 wasn’t the only local business before the Board of Selectmen last night. Colony Market was there as well. But while Pizza 19 had their license granted, Colony Market had theirs revoked after selectmen determined the owner lied on his application for a liquor license renewal.

From the Metrowest Daily News:

The business closed its doors in mid-December after its landlord refused to extend the lease. Despite knowing it would be leaving, town officials said, the business applied for – and received – a 2011 package store license by falsely claiming on the application it would be operating at that location this year.

“This is a very serious matter,” said Selectman Bill Boland, who noted that the owner of the 162 Cordaville Road business signed the application under the penalties of perjury.

A new tenant plans to open up another shop in Colony Market’s spot. Property manager Anthony Carbome from Capital Group Properties told me last month the new store will be “similar but more high-end” featuring beer, wine, and groceries. The new owners will have to get approval for a liquor license from the Board of Selectmen.

Shocker! The owner of the liquor license lied! Who would have ever expected that?
