Breaking news: Power knocked out to 1,300 Southborough customers

A large tree fell on a National Grid substation on Northborough Road this evening knocking out power to more than 1,300 customers on the north east side of Southborough.

Traffic lights were out at several intersections around town during the evening rush hour, and traffic along Route 9 was reportedly backed up “for miles” in the area of Central Street. Lights were also out along Boston Road, at the intersection of Marlboro and Framingham Roads, and at the intersection of Main Street and Route 85.

National Grid said power would be restored by 9:30 pm, but the Southborough Police Department said it should be sooner. As of 6:45 pm, power was starting to come back on for the affected customers.

It’s not known if this evening’s outage was related to storm damage from the Nor’easter last weekend.
