Weekend at a Glance: Comedy night, meditation, brush collection day, and Race for Education (Updated)

Southborough’s going to be busy this weekend! Friday, May 02, 2014:

  • Comedy Night (7:00 pm) @ Acacia at Indian Meadows Country Club, Westborough: Southborough Little League fundraiser. Features comics nationwide headliner PJ Thibodeau and the regions funniest, freshest comic, James Dorsey. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres, live and silent auctions, and 50/50 raffle with cash prize.   • Broadway Nights (7:30 pm) @ St. Mark’s School, Class of ’51 Lobby: Students will perform solos and ensemble songs from Broadway musicals. (Click flyer to enlarge)

Saturday, May 03, 2014:

  • New York City bus trip (6:00 am – 11:00 pm) @: The Southborough Rec Department has planned a day trip to the city – pre-registration required. For $65pp, residents can take a bus to NY in the morning and return that night.  For details, see the dedicated post.
  • Special Brush Collection Day  (8:00 am – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Transfer Station: This is for residents without transfer station permits. For more details, see the dedicated post.
  • Meditation for Healthy Living (5:30 – 6:30 pm) @ Southborough Library: Begin National Meditation Month with less stress. Dr. Allan Hughes will help you discover simple meditation techniques in this powerful and engaging workshop. All are welcome, no registration required.
  • MLB Pitch, Hit and Run (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Mooney Field, behind Finn School: Free competition with chance to advance. Divisions are based on the participant’s age on July 17, 2014. Competitors aged 7-12 compete in 3 age groups per gender. Register at the event.   For more details, see the dedicated post.

Sunday, May 04, 2014:

  • Algonquin Regional Race for Education (Registration opens 8:00 am) @ Algonquin Regional High School: The 3rd annual fundraiser features a 5K for any age, a 1 mile race for ages 5-14 and a Free Fun Run for little kids. Awards and Raffle follow the race. The registration deadline is Friday, May 2nd. All proceeds will go towards 3 school related causes. For more details, see the dedicated post.
  • Southborough Little League Opening Day (8:00 am – 4:00 pm) @ Mooney Field, behind Finn School: Begins with pictures in uniform, then 10:30 am parade and Opening Ceremony. At noon general festivities begin with a carnival and cookout. A Silent Auction will close at 3:00 pm.  For more details, see the dedicated post.
  • ARHS Jazz at the Hatch Shell (1:20 pm): Algonquin’s Jazz I Ensemble will play in a showcase at the Boston landmark. Students earned this right by winning Gold at the Massachusetts Association of Jazz Educators festival this spring.
