Events this week: Trailblazers hike, Special Town Meeting, Food Truck Wednesdays, and Flag placement (Updated)

Entertainment wise, it’s a fairly quiet week in Southborough leading up to Memorial Day.

  • Dana Commons Hike (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Meet at Southborough Senior Center: A program of the Trailblazers for active seniors. Carpool to the hike, followed by a picnic lunch. Suggested Donation: $5. For details, see dedicated post
  • Culinary Demos for Seniors: Five Ways with Salmon (12:30 – 1:30 pm) @ The Southborough Senior Center: One of a 3-part cooking demonstration sessions for seniors by Lori Leinbach from the Culinary Underground in May. Each session has a suggested donation of $3. Please sign up early since space is limited. Call 508-228-4453 or stop by the Senior Center’s front desk. This session focuses on Five Ways with Salmon.   • Special Town Meeting (7:00 – 11:00 pm) @ Trottier Middle School: Town Meeting is the legislative branch of Southborough’s government, where voters directly cast their votes on Town Code, bylaws, spending decisions, etc. This special meeting this spring was prompted by Citizen Petitions. For the Warrant explaining what’s up for a vote and other official Town information, click here. For blog coverage related to the meeting, click here.

  • Food Truck Wednesdays (3:00 – 7:00 pm) @ St. Mark’s Field (intersection of Rtes 85 & 30): The first part of a weekly series organized by the Southborough Rotary Club this spring through June 13. This week’s event will feature trucks by: DogFather, Grub Guru, Say Cheese, StrEAT Food Rx, and Trombetta’s Ice Cream. For more details, see dedicated post.

  • Flag placement for Memorial Day (6:00 pm) @ Rural Cemetery, Cordaville Road/Route 85: Every year, residents are invited to participate in placing fresh flags on the graves of our Veterans to honor their service to our nation. VFW Post 3276 and American Legion Post 161 will meet volunteers in front of the Maintenance Building at the back of the cemetery.

  • Memorial Day – Schools and Public offices closed. (Stay tuned for details on the annual ceremony. The parade traditionally begins at 9:00 am. But I am waiting for this year’s announcement.)
  • Memorial Day Ceremony (9:00 am) @ Parade convenes at Main St Bank and proceeds down Main St, left onto Cordaville Road, and through the Town’s cemeteries, ending at the Memorial at the Common. (For more details, see dedicated post.)
