Post-season Update: Girls Soccer to Semis; Boys Soccer and Volleyball out; Football scheduling “circus”

Earlier this week, I posted that T-Hawks Football will play at North Middlesex in the non-playoff series this afternoon. Turns out, their Division 4 competitors weren’t eager to face the stronger Division 3 team.

The telegram writes that scheduling of the game turned into a “circus” this week. The game was cancelled then back on again. That’s at 4:00 pm. You can read about the drama here.

In regional playoffs. . .

ARHS Girls Soccer will also be playing North Middlesex on their field. The top-seed Girls beat Tantasqua 3-1 in the Quarter Finals. It seems that was enough of a given that the game didn’t get real media coverage. (The telegram did post that ARHS goals were scored by Lucy Rogers, Taylor Moore and Lucy Gauvin.)

The Gonk Girls Soccer will now play in the Semi-Finals against 4th seed North Middlesex at 5:00 pm on Monday. The last time the two teams squared off it ended in a tie.

Gonk Volleyball’s Wednesday game made the news. Unfortunately, the focus was on Hopkinton, who dominated the Semi-Finals with a 3-0 win. (If you want to look back to a happier time for the girls, I found more positive coverage I missed earlier this week. Wicked Local ran a great story about Monday’s exciting Quarter Final win.)

Volleyball wasn’t the only T-Hawks team to fall out of the playoffs on Wednesday. 2nd seed Boys Soccer was outplayed by 7th seed Westborough. The Boys lost the Quarter Finals 2-1 in overtime that evening. Wicked Local called Westborough’s win “a dramatic come-from-behind upset”. You can read about that here.

As I previously posted, three big competitions are scheduled for this weekend.

Tomorrow, the 2nd seed ARHS Field Hockey will face the only team to beat them this fall, top-seed Nashoba. The district Finals are November 9th, 12:45 pm at Grafton High.

ARHS Cross Country regionals are this Saturday, November 9th at the Gardner Municipal Golf Course. The Boys are scheduled for 1:00 pm and the Girls for 2:20 pm.

Plus, Cheerleading’s League Championship is scheduled for this Sunday at Wachusett Regional.
