Yesterday morning, Algonquin celebrated the graduation of 322 members of its senior class. Thanks to Northborough Cable, you can view the speeches by Superintendent Gregory Martineau, Class President Lindsey Stone, Class Essayist Ryan Jennings, and Principal Sean Bevan.

A timeline in the school paper reminded me of the unique experience of the Class of 2022. It’s the first graduating class to have experienced the lockdown, then remote and/or hybrid classes, and ultimately emerged on the other side of the mask mandate with full sports seasons, a lifted mask mandate, prom, and in-person graduation.
The only real sign of a pandemic in yesterday’s ceremony was that it was held outside on the ARHS Football field instead of in the gym. But on a gorgeous spring day, that seemed like a best case scenario.
Per its tradition, The Harbinger’s senior edition shared news on graduates’ plans for next year.
Some plans include working or taking a gap year. 263 self reported as college bound. As usual, our home state was the most common destination with 6 of the 11 most popular schools listed. Here are highlights:
- 124 plan to attend Massachusetts colleges/universities, including:
- UMass Amherst – 26
- Northeastern – 15
- Worcester State – 8
- Framingham State – 7
- Quinsigamund Community – 6
- WPI – 6
- 27 are heading to New York (including 5 for RIT)
- 18 are Connecticut bound (with 8 of those for UConn)
- 15 will dip down to Rhode Island, including (5 for Bryant and 4 for URI)
- 13 will head further south to Pennsylvania (5 of them to Penn State)
