Saturday, October 15, 2022

  • Scarecrow Saturdays (10:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: Free fall fun, no registration required. Kids (and adventurous adults) can have their face painted for free, then take a selfie with scarecrows outside the farm store. Costumes are welcome, and they encourage bringing silly accessories (or team jerseys) to dress the scarecrows for their glamour shot with you. For details, click here.
  • Open Lab for Ideas (10:30 – 12:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, Teen Room: Biweekly program for 12-18 yr olds to explore how they can use Library equipment to take creative project ideas and make them a reality.
  • Sit & Knit (2:00 – 4:00pm) @ Southborough Library: Biweekly program for ages 18+ to drop in and work on your latest knitting or crochet projects while you enjoy the company of fellow yarn crafters in a relaxed social setting. All levels are welcome but no formal instruction will be given.

  • History Walk at Beals Preserve (10:00 am) @ Beals Preserve: Join the Southborough Open Land Foundation (SOLF) for a guided walk and talk about the history of the property. For details, see dedicated post.
  • NSPAC Playground Meetup for families (4:00 – 6:00 pm) @ Assabet Park, 20 Gale St, Northborough: Postponed from September due to weather. Meet and chat with fellow parents of students with disabilities while your child enjoys meeting friends and some end of summer fun. NSPAC will provide snacks and drinks.   • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Join Miss Kim for stories and craft based on a weekly theme. Ages 2-5 years and their parents or caregivers. No registration required. (Mondays & Tuesdays through most of the school year.)
  • Bereavement Group (1:00 – 2: 00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: The Bereavement Group is a monthly support group is for ages 50 and older. To sign up to join the group, please call Leslie Chamberlin, R.N. at 508-229-4453.
  • Creativity Club (3:30 – 4:30 pm) @ Southborough, Library Teen Room: Young adults ages 12 to 18 are invited to drop-in to work on creative projects. Craft materials will be available and writing prompts and projects provided. No pre-registration required.

  • Book Bugs: Farm Fun for Little Ones (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: Pre-registration (and fee) required. For ages 2 to 5 years old, adult supervision required (siblings under 2 yrs old can attend for free). Bring your little bug to the farm for an interactive children’s story time. We’ll read a farm story, make a craft, and explore the farm! Each day will have a different theme. (Biweekly program.) For details, see related post.
  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Join Miss Kim for stories and craft based on a weekly theme. Ages 2-5 years old and their parents or caregivers. No registration required. (Mondays & Tuesdays through most of the school year.)
  • Senior Songsters (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ where: The Senior Center’s singing group’s weekly rehearsal. This friendly group is open to any senior who enjoys singing regardless of ability. (Those who prefer to listen can sit in.) For details, see related post.
  • Bridge (12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group, welcoming new participants. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Tuesday Tech Time (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: Each week, library staff and teen volunteers will make every effort to assist patrons with technology questions. Bring questions about ebooks and electronic resources. This is a drop in event; no registrations necessary. 
  • Teen Book Club (5:00 – 6:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: This monthly book club run by the Southborough Library for high schoolers requires pre-registration. For details, see related post.
  • Autism Parent Training (6:30 pm) @zoom: Presented by Massachusetts Advocates for Children and hosted by NSPAC, this workshop provides an overview of specific special education requirements addressing the unique needs of students with autism. For details, see related post.
  • Wellness Series: Restorative Sleep (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ zoom: The Southborough Library and Jill Vroman Fitness & Wellness are offering free, virtual Wellness workshops to the community.   • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Southborough cemetery, 11 Cordaville Road: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Kids Jam (11:00 – 11:30 am) @ Southborough Library Lawn: Weekly program featuring traditional and popular children’s songs suitable for newborns through preschool age. Drop-In, no registration necessary. Children must be accompanied by parent/caregiver. (The outdoor event will be cancelled if it rains.)
  • Woodward Family Math Night (6:00 pm) @ Woodward School: Families of Woodward students are invited to have fun while learning some new math games alongside your child and leave with supplies and materials to play at home.
  • Southborough Rotary Club (7:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, main level: Take action, build international understanding, and make new friends around the world. Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Find out how serious leadership can be seriously fun.

  • Baby/Toddler Storytime (11:00 – 11:45 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: This weekly story time is for children age 0-2 years and their parents or caregivers. Each session will include puppets, stories, and music. No registration required.
  • Reading Buddies (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Beginner readers looking for a supportive listener, and teens interested in helping young patrons gain confidence in the reading skills, are invitedt o register to be paired up through the library’s weekly program.   • NSBORO StoryBridge Showcase (7:00 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School, Black Box Theater, 79 Bartlett St, Northborough: The public sdhools’ Coalition for Equity is inviting the community to a StoryBridge Community Event to hear members of our District share their “NSboro Stories on the Stage.” For details, see dedicated post.
  • Genealogy Club (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ where: Monthly informal group meeting to learn and share tips about resources for researching family history. Free and open to the public. Bring your laptop, log into Ancestry.com and join in.

  • Learn Origami (3:30 – 4:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: This free program is for Ages 10+. Learn from an expert origami artist new origami shapes with a fall season theme. Beginners are welcome. This a drop in program, no registration required.
  • Southborough Safe Spaces – Halloween party (7:00 – 9:00 pm) @ Pilgrim Church, 15 Common St: Youth Halloween party for grades 6-12 hosted by Southborough Safe Spaces for LBGTQ+ youth of all faiths and their allies. Wear your most fabulous costume, bring a spooky snack to share, & get ready to PARTY!!! Refreshments will be served. As always, donations are appreciated. Take a leisurely hike through Chestnut Hill Farm’s beautiful grounds and trails, accompanied by one or more of our friendly goats! Pre-registration (and fee) required.   • Read to a Dog (11:00 – 11:45 am) @ Southborough Library: Program preferably for kids ages 5 and up with some reading ability. Each month, children can sign up to read a short book to a certified therapy dog. Register at the Children’s Room desk or by contacting kivers@southboroughma.com or 508-485-5031.
  • Healthy Holiday Harvest (1:00 – 2:00 pm) @ where: Kim Larkin will demonstrate how to celebrate the holiday season with a fun, colorful buffet, tablescaping techniques 101, healthful recipe handouts, and easy wine and spirit recommendations. As always, she will offer samples to enjoy. Open to the public, no registration required.
  • SFA Halloween Parade & Costume Contest (2:00 – 3:00 pm): The public is invited to join the annual community costume parade. Gather outside of Woodward School, then march to the Public Safety Building to show off costumes and enjoy treats. For details, see related post.
  • Trunk or Treat (3:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Woodward School: Town departments will have vehicle trunks decorated like Halloween themed parade floats. Families are encouraged to come trick or treat at each. The event is put on by Southborough Recreation. For details, see related post.
