Here are highlights of what’s happening around (or related to) our town this weekend through next weekend.

Veteran’s Day, Saturday, November 11, 2023

  • Holiday Closures: The Southborough Library and Transfer Station are closed.
  • Scouting for Food: By 9:00 am, place your marked bags of donated food for the Food Pantry on your doorstep or the end of your driveway for pickup from town scout volunteeers. Scouts will be making pickups throughout the day (and sorting items at Pilgrim Church beginning at noon.) For details, see dedicated post.
  • Goat Hangout and Ramble (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: (Formerly called “Hike with Goats”.) Your reservation gets you and your group of family or friends an hour-long experience with a friendly goat on its own harness and leash. For details, click here.
  • Veterans Day (11:00 am) @ All Wars Memorial: Veterans will lead the town’s Veteran’s Day short parade followed by ceremony including readings and patriotic music. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Weathering the Winter (11:00 am – 1:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: An interactive walk to learn how Chestnut Hill Farm prepares for and survives the winter.. Pre-registration (and fee) required. (Veterans may request a free ticket.) For details, see related post.
  • Southborough Safe Spaces – Pride Trivia (7:00 – 9:00 pm) @ St Mark’s Church, 27 Main Street: Trivia night and dinner for grades 6-12 hosted by Southborough Safe Spaces for LBGTQ+ youth of all faiths and their allies. For details, see their Facebook page.

  • Turkey Trot FlierKids Turkey Trot (9:00 – 11:00 am) @ Trottier Middle School track: The free annual Thanksgiving season fun run for kids in strollers through ages 8+ hosted by Southborough Kindergroup. For details and to sign up, see dedicated post.
  • Goat Hangout and Ramble (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: (Formerly called “Hike with Goats”.) Your reservation gets you and your group of family or friends an hour-long experience with a friendly goat on its own harness and leash. For details, click here.
  • Assabet Valley Mastersingers (3:30 – 5:30 pm) @ Pilgrim Church: The regional choral group’s fall concert “Choral Tapestry” will weave together classical and contemporary works.. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Girls Lacrosse Learn to Play Clinic flyerLearn to Play Girls Lacrosse Clinic (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ 911 Field: Northborough-Southborough Girls Lacrosse is holding a free clinic for grades K-6, covering the basics of playing the sport.   • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Knitting Club (1:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: Bi-monthly social knitting group. Beginners are welcome and supplies will be provided, though you can also bring your own and “any creation you are working on”. For details, see related post.
  • NSBORO School “Wellness Day”: Public school is in session for Northborough-Southborough, but no homework, tests, or quizzes can be assigned due to the holiday Diwali.

  • Senior Technology Help (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: A local tech services company will answer seniors’ questions about their devices, etc. Pre-registration is required (and it may be full). description. For details, see related post.
  • Reading Roundtable (11:30 am – 12:30 pm) @ Southborough Library: A new monthly Book Club for adult book lovers to delve into literary analysis. For details, see related post.
  • Bridge (12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group, welcoming new participants. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Select Board Office Hours (6:00 – 7:00 pm) @ Town House Hearing Room, 17 Common St: Residents are invited to drop in to informally speak with two Board members about any questions, concerns or interests. This session will be hosted by members Marguerite Landry and Al Hamilton
  • Poetry Workshop (6:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, main level: Bring in five copies of original poetry to share. The group will provide supportive feedback. If you don’t have a poem, come anyway and share your insights. (Meets twice monthly.)
  • Geeks Who Drink Trivia Night (8:00 – 10:00 pm) @ Owen O’Leary’s, 50 Turnpike Rd: Weekly Trivia game night with prizes. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Southborough cemetery, 11 Cordaville Road: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Crafternoon (4:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: Registration is required for this free workshop for ages 8+. This session is to create rustic pressed flower lanterns which can be used as a centerpiece or decoration. For details, see related post.
  • Southborough Rotary Club (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Southborough. New and prospective members are always welcome. (Held on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month.)

  • Mah Jongg (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: The weekly program would love new players to join. Feel free to stop by to watch or talk to one of the players to see if you would be interested. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Preschool Farm Explorers (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: For ages 2 years 9 months to 5 years old, Adult supervision required. Pre-registration (and fee) required. (discount for younger siblings and free for siblings under 1.) Little farm explorers will become immersed in what life is like at Chestnut Hill. Each session has a different theme. (Offered weekly.)   • Southborough K-8 Half Day: Southborough public schools (not including the high school) will have early dismissal to allow for Parent-Teacher Conferences. (Dismissal times by schools are Trottier at 10:50 am, Neary at 11:50 am, Woodward at 12:05 pm, and Finn K-1 at 12:20 pm and Pre-K at 11:00 am.)
