Trottier’s “Myth Understood” on stage this weekend

6th-8th graders will perform a one act comedy this Friday and Saturday evenings.

Trottier Middle Schoolers are hitting the stage for another play this Friday and Saturday.

This time, they won’t be singing and dancing. Instead, students will take a comedic look at Greek Mythology through the eyes of modern day teens.

The 6th-8th graders will put on the one act comedy “Myth Understood” by Jackie Martin. Public performances of the production will take place in their auditorium Friday, May 8th at 7:00 pm and Saturday, May 9th at 2:00 pm.

Tickets are already being sold online (here) for $8 per student or senior, and $10 for general admission. You can also use the portal to purchase a “Star-Gram”:

Send a message and a sweet treat to an actor before the show! Show your ticket at the Star-Gram table to complete your message.

The storyline may seem familiar to fans of Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventures. But this time, instead of learning about real history, transported students will be schooled by Greek mythological figures seeking to “spin” their stories and use the teens to improve their public images.

myth Understood script coverThe script vendor describes:

Two teens writing a report on Greek mythology are startled when they get a visit from Hermes, winged helmet and all! The messenger whisks them away to Mount Olympus, where various gods and goddesses retell their myths to the students in a more favorable light. In a quest to get people to worship them once again, Zeus and the other gods and goddesses want to put a more positive (and hilarious!) spin on their version of events.

From Medusa just wanting to be noticed to Eurydice quickly tiring of Orpheus’s attention and Paris having to choose who to give his golden apple to on the reality TV show “Apple of His Eye,” the two teens are surprised to hear different perspectives on familiar ancient Greek stories. The only problem is… the mythological figures might not exactly be telling the truth!
