More specialty camps & sports clinics

We’re in the second full week of public school vacation. For parents that still haven’t finalized camp plans, you may be running out of time to book weeks that work for your family this summer.

So, I’m highlighting more options in town or connected to Algonquin, and reminding of the camp options that I already shared.

New Specialty Camps & Clinics

These aren’t actually newly available — but they may be new to readers, since I haven’t shared information about them yet this year!

Boston Bolts “World Cup” Soccer Camps
6/7-14 year olds
Monday – Thursday sessions, Overnight or Day (9:00 am –3:30 pm)

The business is operating camps on both private boarding schools’ campuses this summer. The day camps allows ages 6-14, while the overnight campers must be at least 7 years old.

From skill-building sessions to small-sided games, every day is built around creativity, confidence, and fun. Players will train like pros, learn from top Bolts coaches, and immerse themselves in a high-energy environment that matches the world’s most electrifying tournament.

For the overnight campers:

experience life like a professional soccer player; receiving 3 meals a day, following a soccer-specific meal plan, staying in air-conditioned dorms and taking part in tactical and team bonding experiences too.

I missed sharing this in time for the first two camp weeks, but there are still remaining options (click here):

Week 3 : July 13-16 @ St Marks School, 25 Marlboro Rd
Week 4 : July 27-30 @ St Marks School, 25 Marlboro Rd
Week 5: August 17-20 @ Fay School, 25 Marlboro Rd

Fay School “Try It!” Softball & Baseball Clinic
entering grades 6-8
Wednesday, July 15th (5:30 – 6:30 pm) free
Algonquin Regional High School gym, 79 Bartlett St, Northborough

This free 1-hour clinic is run by the school’s varsity and AAU coach. (The school obviously hopes it will encourage some families to register kids to attend the private school in the fall. I missed sharing in time their clinics for Lacrose and Tennis). It “is designed for beginners or players looking to sharpen their skills, and participants will practice throwing, catching, fielding, batting, base running, and more!” (Click here)

Trilogy Lacrosse’s Future Aces New England (Girls)
Girls entering grades 6-9
(The Boys camp is already full with a long waitlist.)
Monday, July 27th – Thursday the 30th, Overnight or Extended day
St. Mark’s School, 25 Marlboro Rd

Players who aim to play at collegiate level will “receive the appropriate amount of instruction, competition and exposure to ensure they are prepared for the next steps of their lacrosse career”. $1075 (Must be US Lacrosse members). (Click here)

Notes: It’s worth stressing for anyone who read the inaccurate description on St. Mark’s School’s website — this is an overnight camp. However (for the same price), parents can arrange for the alternative extended day option, picking up students each night and returning them in the morning. (You’d need to reach out to Trilogy for those details.)

Tim Morehouse Fencing Club
11-17 year olds
Sundays to Sundays, August 2nd – 9th & August 9th – 16th Overnight or Commuter (9:00 am – 8:00 pm)
St. Mark’s School, 25 Marlboro Rd

Campers are asked to register for camps that focus on Saber, Foil, or Epee. The club promotes that campers “will be immersed in a culture of teamwork and elite training as they learn about what it is like to train like an Ivy League college-fencer as they learn from Olympians and Elite coaches across all 3 weapons.” Rates start at $3,500 for “commuters” and $3,750 for overnight, with a discount rate for signing up for two weeks. (Click here)

ARHS Cheer Clinic
entering grades 9-12 (ARHS students only)
Monday, August 17th – Thursday the 20th (3:30 – 7:00 pm)
Algonquin Regional High School gym, 79 Bartlett St, Northborough

For members of the cheer team and those hoping to join it in the fall. The clinic will include drills and basics, plus “bonding activities”. It will also feature tryouts for the team. (Click here to register. But students must also be pre-registered in ARHS Athletics’ arbiter system.)

Fay Summer

For over 25 years, Fay School has offered summer camps. The current offerings cover a wide range of options for kids entering Pre-School (Ages 3+) – Grade 9.

All of the camps take advantage of the swimming pool, playgrounds, climbing wall, and athletic facilities (plus air conditioned buildings). The camps run from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm with Extended Day options (7:30 am – 6:00 pm).

  • Classic Day Camp for grades PreK-6 (with a half day option for PreK-K)
  • Specialty Camps for grades 2-6: half day camp and half focused on a fun specialty program (including sports, tech, arts, etc.)
  • Spotlight Camps for grades 6-9: most of the day is focused on “immersion” in the specialty program (including sports, tech, arts, etc.)
  • Voyager Camps for grades 6-9: each day is a field trip, with each week focused on a theme. (remaining themes cover pro sports, golf, canoeing & survival skills, fishing, and art)

The half day Classic camp is $395 per week, and Full Day Classic is $610 per week. Costs go up for speicalty programs (and Extended Day add ons).

The school also offers overnight “Academic Adventures” camps for ages 10-15 with a 2-week and 4-week option. The first week starts this Sunday. (The second session of the 2-week program starts July 26th.)

In addition to enjoying the school/camp facilities, extracurriculars, campers:

take three courses: Fay Forensics, a science/technology course; Vox Inventum, a humanities/language course; and Fay School’s signature Creators Class. These 60-minute classes are hands-on learning labs, where students are actively involved in fun projects that can lead to a deeper understanding of the subject area and conjure excitement about new ideas.
