Green Communities Update: 2021 investments; 5 yrs of investments estimating return of $100K+ in annual savings

A hybrid police cruiser was one of the ways that Southborough is using Mass’ Green Communities Program to reduce the Town’s energy/fuel bills while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Town Meeting Update: Taxpayers could see < 2.5% increase; SAP explanation & Final Warrant posted

Advisory is optimistic that the final budget at Town Meeting will represent just a “cost of living increase”. And the proposed changes for the SAP have been posted (with one semi-controversial item) along with the Final Warrant that went to print. Information session to talk ‘green communities’ on January 19

In 2008 Massachusetts passed the Green Communities Act. It’s legislation that encourages municipalities to adopt clean energy practices in exchange for increased local aid. Since then, more than 80 cities and towns in the state have been designated Green Communities. Southborough’s Green Technology and Recycling Committee thinks our town should consider becoming one of them.
