Eighteen months ago, the Northborough-Southborough T-Hawks decided to leave Central Mass. Pop Warner for another league. It was an expensive decision. Pop Warner sued, and under a settlement the Jr. T-Hawks agreed to hand over $55K of its cash reserves and $20K of equipment to Pop Warner. It will be an Algonquin double-header in the lacrosse state finals later this week. Both the boys and girls lacrosse teams won their semifinal matches in East Longmeadow yesterday, setting up back-to-back championship games on Friday. The Algonquin baseball team, on the other hand, will have to wait a few more days to find out if their Cinderella season will continue after their semifinal match against Westfield was postponed due to rain. What a weekend for Algonquin. On Saturday the boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse teams won their respective district titles in back-to-back matches at Foley Stadium. The same day the Algonquin girls rugby team captured the Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organization State Championship title. Then on Sunday, the underdog Algonquin baseball team staged a huge upset over top-ranked St. John’s to win the Central Division 1 title.
