Town Meeting approved expanding right to add Accessory Dwelling Units

Owners of single family homes will have a right to add an apartment or additional unit, within size caps, and as long as they meet other zoning (and septic) restrictions.

I’m continuing to follow up on debates that took place at Annual Town Meeting earlier this month. Today I’m focusing on a zoning change that should make it much easier for residents to add Accessory Dwelling Units to their homes. Share feedback on “experience with gas and electric delivery rates” by April 30

A Mass Dept of Public Utilities investigation invites comments on customers' rate experiences, and input on other questions they are looking into.

The state is inviting the all gas and electricity customers to comment on delivery charges.
I’m also reminding about the Town’s program meant to help save costs on the supply side. And, I’m highlighting (for Earth Day week), that some Town plan users may want to upgrade to a greener choice.

Parents: Learn about the Social Host Law

The talk about legal liabilities related to parties with underage drinking is offered in a year that ARHS isn't holding a Post Prom Party

Northborough and Southborough parents and caregivers are invited to attend (or stream) an info session in early May. The topic is the “Social Host Law”.

The session is timed to inform families in the community who might be planning to host/coordinate parties for teens celebrating upcoming milestones (or just making the most of spring and summer).

It’s worth noting that the talk is scheduled for a year when Algonquin is no longer offering a Junior Post Prom Party (JPPP). Read the full article → from Parents: Learn about the Social Host Law

Candidates Night — Wednesday, April 29th (Updated)

Attend the Q&A for candidates competing for Select Board. (Plus, other election details and reminders.)

The annual forum to get to know the candidates running for contested positions is a week from tonight. It allows residents to essentially take part in the job interview for seats on one of the most powerful boards in the executive branch of our Town government.

Three candidates are vying for two seats on the Select Board.

As usual, the event will include a meet and greet followed by a moderated Q&A hosted by the Trustees of the Southborough Library.  Read the full article → from Candidates Night — Wednesday, April 29th (Updated)

The week in ARHS sports

[The weekly highlights from last week’s competitions and what’s on tap this week in Algonquin Regional High School varsity sports.]

It’s still early in the spring season. But I couldn’t help notice a clear trend in Algonquin sports. So far, most of ARHS Girls varsity teams have been at least slightly outperforming the Boys team counterparts. (And, sometimes, significantly.) Read the full article → from The week in ARHS sports

Boston Marathon: Reminder & Another Southborough Connection

A reminder this Marathon Monday, that 18 Southborough residents are running in today’s big race. You can find a link to my post with highlights here.

While I’m sharing that, I also want to spotlight another town connection to the race. Over the weekend, the Community Advocate published a writeup of a Southborough volunteer who has become a “Marathon Mainstay”.
