AHT withdrew offer on Atwood parcel

Special Town Meeting Article will focus only addressing site contamination — including a temporary safety measure

On Tuesday night, the Chair of the Affordable Housing Trust announced their formal withdrawal of their offer on the old Atwood Water Tower Parcel.

The Select Board will be bringing forward an amended funding request to the Fall Town Meeting for the next stages of addressing contamination on the Town-owned property. But voters won’t be asked to consider a deal to allow the Trust to purchase the site. (At least not this fall.)  Read the full article → from AHT withdrew offer on Atwood parcel

Fall Town Meeting Update: IP Zoning changes focus on bringing Costco to town (Updated-again)

The Article proposed by Atlantic Management would allow the popular chain to apply for a special permit to open a store on an old EMC parcel. Planning is working to limit other IP parcels eligible for the new use. And the Select Board is touting the economic boon.

A representative for the owner of the old EMC parcel seeking a new zoning use revealed the big fish they’re trying to land. According to Atlantic Management’s attorney, they are in negotiations with Costco.

The retailer was revealed during Monday night’s Planning Board hearing during an explanation for the developer’s urgency in trying to add “Highway Major Retail” as a use in the Industrial Park (IP) zone. At their meeting last night, the Select Board emphasized the revenue that a “magnet” store like Costco could bring into Southborough. Fall Town Meeting: Developer’s Article proposes new use for entire Industrial Park zone

Officials and proponents debated crafting a use that applies to all IP zoned lots (like Park Central) but would only be possible on the old EMC property.

The Planning Board has scheduled an additional hearing for this Monday to deal with a challenging, but highly desired, zoning Article. The Select Board is eager for Fall Town Meeting voters to approve an Industrial Park zoning use that will allow permitting and construction of a project at 21 Coslin Drive. Affordable Housing Trust to discuss Atwood Parcel at Thursday morning meeting

In a prior post, I shared news about the Affordable Housing Trust’s offer to purchase a Town-owned 1.8 acre parcel on Atwood Street. I had noted while the agenda for tomorrow didn’t specify that topic, it might be open for discussion under the more generic agenda items. This morning, I learned of two changes. The most important is that the meeting was moved up from the original schedule. Read the full article → from Affordable Housing Trust to discuss Atwood Parcel at Thursday morning meeting

Fall Town Meeting: Neary Roof may (or may not) be on the Warrant

Last month, the Southborough School Committee submitted an Article for the Warrant for the Special Town Meeting in October. It requests borrowing over $4MM to replace Neary School’s roof.

This week, Select Board members raised the possibility of not including the Article on the Warrant. But in their discussion, they got a key fact wrong. Read the full article → from Fall Town Meeting: Neary Roof may (or may not) be on the Warrant
