Here are highlights of what’s happening around (or related to) our town this weekend through next weekend. (Sorry, this didn’t get posted yesterday!)

Saturday, April 1, 2023

  • SkyRise presents “Secret Agent Splat” (11:00 – 11:45 am) @ Southborough Library, main floor: An interactive story time with games for ages 4-9 led by SkyRise Theater. Pre-registration required. For details, see related post.
  • Rainbow Food Pinwheels (1:00 – 2:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Room: Led by a professional children’s cooking instructor, children ages 5-7 can come have fun making healthy food tasty! Registration required. For details, see related post.
  • Sit & Knit (2:00 – 4:00pm) @ Southborough Library: Biweekly program for ages 18+ to drop in and work on your latest knitting or crochet projects while you enjoy the company of fellow yarn crafters in a relaxed social setting. All levels are welcome but no formal instruction will be given.
  • Chestnut Hill by Moonlight (4:30 – 6:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: Guided moonlit hike by a Trustees of Reservations Ranger – for All ages/Family. This session “Blossoming Spring by the Pink Moon”, Search for signs of seasonal change, learn about wild medicinal plants, and try dandelion tea! Pre-registration (and fee) required.   • Troop 1’s Pancake Breakfast (8:00 am – 1:00 pm) @ Neary School cafeteria, 53 Parkerville Rd: The Boy Scout troop’s annual fundraiser. For details, see dedicated post.
  • ARHS NHS Easter Egg Hunt (9:00 am) @ Algonquin Regional High School, football field, 79 Bartlett St, Northborough: Algonquin’s National Honor Society welcomes Northborough and Southborough Families to a free Easter Egg hunt. Participants are encouraged to bring a food pantry donation. (Initially scheduled for Saturday, it was delayed due to rain.) Pre-registration required. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Dinner Church (6:00 pm) @ St Mark’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 27 Main St: Join us for a sacred meal. We’ll make the meal together, light candles, sing simple songs, receive Holy Communion, and reflect and pray together. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Trottier Middle School’s outdoor track: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Preschool Story Time (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library Children’s Room: Join Miss Kim for stories and craft based on a weekly theme. Ages 2-5 years and their parents or caregivers. No registration required. (Mondays & Tuesdays through most of the school year.)
  • FOSL Hola flyerFriends of the Library – HOLA fundraiser (lunch and dinner) @ HOLA Restaurante & Tequila Bar: A portion from each pickup order for takeout to The Friends of the Southborough Library – no code needed. [Note: The offer doesn’t apply to in-person dining or to orders through delivery services.] Offer good this Mon – Thurs.   • Knitting Club (1:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: Bi-monthly social knitting group. Beginners are welcome and supplies will be provided, though you can also bring your own and “any creation you are working on”. For planning purposes, the Senior Center is asking potential attendees to RSVP. For details, see related post.
  • Youth Writing Club (3:30 – 4:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, Teen Room: Weekly Library program for youth ages 11-18. Participants are invited to come share ideas and practice writing skills in a supportive environment. No sign up necessary.

  • Book Bugs: Farm Fun for Little Ones (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: Pre-registration (and fee) required. For ages 2 to 5 years old, adult supervision required (siblings under 2 yrs old can attend for free). Bring your little bug to the farm for an interactive children’s story time. We’ll read a farm story, make a craft, and explore the farm! Each day will have a different theme. (Biweekly program.) For details, see related post

  • Drop-In Art (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Room: Art program geared to ages 5 and up, no registration required. Led by Lanting Huang-Truong from Southborough’s Bigelow Arts. This session she will teach participants how to how to make flowers and animals out of Model Magic. These will get painted and put on stands for display.   • Select Board Office Hours (6:00 – 7:00 pm) @ Town House Hearing Room, 17 Common St: Residents are invited to drop in to informally speak with two Board members about any questions, concerns or interests. This session will be hosted by members Sam Stivers and Andrew Dennington.
  • Geeks Who Drink Trivia Night (8:00 – 10:00 pm) @ Owen O’Leary’s, 50 Turnpike Rd: Weekly Trivia game night with prizes. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Teen Library Team (5:00 – 6:00 pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: The library is looking for teen ideas for programs and services! Teens committed to making their voices heard are invited to a monthly library leadership meeting. Attending these meetings can count toward volunteering. This is for youth ages 13 -19.   • Southborough Rotary Club (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Southborough. New and prospective members are always welcome. (Held on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month.)

  • Agriculture Afternoons (12:30 – 3:30 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm:Drop-off program for grades K-5. Participants will engage in a fun-filled afternoon with activities such as visiting the farm animals, hiking the trails, creating art projects, and playing games. Pre-registration (and fee) required.   • Drop-In Lego building (4:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Room: Drop by the library to build with Legos! Best for ages 4 and up. Kids can display their finished creations in the Children’s Room. Legos will be provided by the library. No registration required.
  • Learn to Play Chess (6:30 – 7:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor stacks: Learn to play chess with high school expert Luca! (Meet ups will occur biweekly, normally at 5:00 pm. The event was pushed to 6:30 pm this week.)

  • Dull Men’s Club (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: Casual social club for senior men. New members are always welcome to drop in. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Canasta (11:15 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Better World Book Club (3:30 – 4:30 pm) @ Southborough Library Teen Room: This monthly book club run by the Southborough Library for middle schoolers requires pre-registration. For details, see related post.

Saturday, April 8, 2023

  • Kindergroup’s Easter Egg Hunt (11:00 am) @ St. Mark’s field (corner of routes 30 & 85): (This was originally scheduled for April 1st, but delayed due to rain.) The Southborough community is invited to a free egg hunt and to meet the Easter Bunny. No registration is required. (Attendees who can afford to are encouraged to bring a contribution for the Southborough Food Pantry.) For details, see dedicated post.
  • Southborough Safe Spaces – Family nature walk (3:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Meet up at South side of the cemetery on Rt 85: Event for families hosted by Southborough Safe Spaces for LBGTQ+ youth of all faiths and their allies. Help leave little bits of love to be found! Walk with us through the Sudbury reservoir trail as we wander, chat, and find spots to leave our affirmation rocks. Sunday, April 9, 2023 – Easter

  • Easter Sunrise Service (6:30 am) @ Hopkinton State Park, marina area: United Parishes of Southborough welcomes the public to its annual service. (In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the First Community Church, 137, Southville Road.)

Updated (4/6/23 7:27 am): Thursday’s Learn to Play Chess at the Library was pushed to 6:30 pm.
