Algonquin captures four championship titles this weekend (with PHOTOS)

What a weekend for Algonquin. On Saturday the boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse teams won their respective district titles in back-to-back matches at Foley Stadium. The same day the Algonquin girls rugby team captured the Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organization State Championship title. Then on Sunday, the underdog Algonquin baseball team staged a huge upset over top-ranked St. John’s to win the Central Division 1 title. Public hearing on proposed zoning code changes – TONIGHT

For several years now a committee of volunteers has been working on revamping Southborough’s zoning code. They’ve considered everything from open space protection to multi-family housing and subdivisions to commercial development along Route 9. Algonquin boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, and girls rugby all win championship titles on Saturday

Yesterday was a big day in Algonquin sports. Both the boys and girls lacrosse teams won their respective Central Division championship games. The boys beat Grafton by a score of 11-9 and the girls triumphed over Westborough by a score of 7-5. Both teams will move on to the state tournament with semifinal games on Tuesday. SOUTHBOROUGH – John C. Misener, 85, a life long resident of Southborough, died on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Hearthstone at New Horizons in Marlborough after a long illness. MWDN: Southborough senior housing project on hold
Stonebrook Village is a development that can’t seem to get off the ground. First proposed as a 15-unit 40B affordable housing development off Oregon Road in 2008, the project got approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals in September 2010. But last August, Southborough developer William Depietri scrapped plans for the 40B saying he wanted to build an over-55 community on the property instead. MWDN: Southborough selectmen revive town manager effort
I wasn’t able to attend last night’s Board of Selectmen meeting, but the Metrowest Daily News was there and reports on an interesting development in the ongoing effort to change Southborough’s form of government. Selectmen voted last night to create an ad hoc committee that will be charged with bringing Town Manager legislation before voters once again. Postseason update: Algonquin boys lacrosse, baseball advance; girls tennis out
It was a nail-biter for the Algonquin boys lacrosse team last night at Foley Stadium, but the T-Hawks pulled out a 7-6 win against St. John’s in the Central Division 2 semifinals. Sophomore Mike Wood scored the final two goals, including the game-winner which came with just 3:54 left to play.
