The Southborough Open Land Foundation asked me to share a couple of news items. One is highlights from from their recent annual meeting where they reviewed accomplishments and gave out the annual Elaine Beals Conservation Award.

Earlier this month, the Southborough Food Pantry added more community members in need to their “client” list. As of mid-May, they are serving “200 people and counting” which they described as the highest number they have had “in quite a long time”.

On Memorial Day, Southborough residents honored the town’s veterans, especially those lost in battle. The event concluded with a surprise for the VFW Commander who led the ceremonies. Bubbles’, a shy pug, got loose last week. Although she’s from Marlborough, she was recently spotted around the Southborough border.

In a post about committee vacancies earlier this week, I noted that the Town would need to fill a seat on the Elementary School Building Committee. On Tuesday night, the Select Board decided that they need a volunteer with relevant experience in engineering, construction or design of buildings.
There is a volunteer waiting in the wings. But a Select Board member highlighted that his appointment might create an “optics issue”. His joining would make the majority of the committee former members of the Neary Building Committee. The Zoning Board of Appeals issued its written decision approving the permit for a 40B housing development southwest of the corner of Route 9 and Parkerville Road.
